Code Compliance Resolution

Code Compliance Resolution

It’s Wednesday morning and an “official” letter arrives from the local building department informing you that your place of work is not in compliance with current code.  The violation must be resolved in 60 days otherwise you face a $250/day fine.

First you feel disbelief, then anger and then panic.

You are an expert in your field (medical, retail, shipping, etc.), but code compliance and construction are a foreign topic.  Most importantly “you don’t have time for this!”

The solution is Design Collaborative.  We are a full service architecture firm that knows the business and speaks the language of the building department.  Let us be your advocate.

Our goal is to provide the necessary consultant services to investigate, create and complete a plan that resolves the code violation.  It is our intent to relieve the client of the stress and confusion caused by compliance issues.  Throughout the process it is our desire that the client need only focus on their industry and occupation while we handle the compliance problem.

Through twenty one years of experience in the architecture and building industry we have developed a system to address code compliance that solves the problem and allows the client to concentrate on their industry.

The process we use to resolve the code violations:

·         Review all correspondence between the client and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ)

·         Visit the site to survey the existing conditions and review the appropriate codes

·         Contact the AHJ to establish a dialogue, review issues and create a timeline

·         Create and present a plan that resolves the compliance issue to the client

·         Oversee the implementation of the plan to its completion

One of our recent clients, Stajac Industries, had a 50,000 sf warehouse in St. Petersburg, Florida that held 10,000 of their refrigeration units.  During the fire marshal’s annual visit half a dozen violations were discovered.  To make the matter more complex, Stajac Industries was the leasee and not the property owner.  Design Collaborative was contracted to evaluate the violations, establish a timeline with the fire marshal, and see the project through construction.  Dell Dahl, President of Stajac Industries, had this to say about our services:

“We have received our final CO for the St. Petersburg warehouse. Operations are moving forward now without fear of business delays due to the compliance issues with the Fire Marshal.

I am writing to thank you and your organization for the prompt and effective handling of the matter. Our organization was quite surprised to receive the initial notices but more worrisome was the drama involved with solving issues which we were completely unqualified to handle.  Your direct and immediate intervention reduced our anxiety and your ongoing updates enabled us to focus on our business without worry.”
